Exploiting the Produce-Consume Relationship in DMA to Improve I/O Performance
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we investigate the nature of DMA mechanism wherein there is an explicit product-consume relationship. Base on this observation we propose a DMA Cache technique to improve performance of DMA operations. To evaluate this technique, we adopt a hardware-based memory trace collection tool and an FPGA-based tracedrive emulation system. Experimental results show that DMA Cache can improve I/O performance significantly.

A Study on the Relationship Between ERP Logic and Direct Consume Coefficient of I/O Table
The paper analyzes necessity and possibility of integrating ERP with Input-Output technology (I/O). It studies relationship between ERP logic and the direct consume coefficient of manufacture enterprise I/O table, and proves that it is feasible to convert basic data of ERP to direct consume coefficient and entire consume coefficient of enterprise I/O table. It also proves that it is convenient ...
متن کاملA Study of Disk Performance Optimization
A STUDY OF DISK PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION by Richard S. Gray Response time is one of the most important performance measures associated with a typical multi-user system. Response time, in turn, is bounded by the performance of the input/output (I/O) subsystem. Other than the end user and some external peripherals, the slowest component of the I/O subsystem is the disk drive. One standard strateg...
متن کاملWorst-Case Timing Analysis of Cycle-Stealing DMA I/O Tasks
A DMA controller that operates in the cycle-stealing mode is allowed to transfer data only when the CPU does not need the system bus. Thus, the execution time of a cycle-stealing DMA I/O task depends on the sequence of instructions executing concurrently with it. This paper describes a method for bounding the worst-case execution time (WCET) of a cycle-stealing DMA I/O task. We rst deene the ta...

The indigenous intestinal microflora are involved in a variety of processes within the human body, and are important for maintaining host health. As such, interindividual differences in the ability to harbor certain intestinal bacteria might be associated with interindividual differences in health and/or disease susceptibility. In the last decade there has been considerable interest in phytoest...
متن کاملFlexNIC: Rethinking Network DMA
We propose FlexNIC, a flexible network DMA interface that can be used by operating systems and applications alike to reduce packet processing overheads. The recent surge of network I/O performance has put enormous pressure on memory and software I/O processing subsystems. Yet even at high speeds, flexibility in packet handling is still important for security, performance isolation, and virtuali...
